From Project Accountant to President: How Tammy’s Talent and Tom’s Trust Built a Next-Level Business
When Tom first met Tammy nearly fourteen years ago, he didn’t just hire an accountant. He unknowingly chose a partner who would help shape one of the most defining chapters of his business. What began as a practical hire quickly evolved into a leadership partnership marked by trust, shared values, and a relentless commitment to doing right by people.
From the very beginning, Tammy stood out. Tom recalls how she “got up to speed quickly” and impressed even the most seasoned team members with her calm, capable, style. She didn’t just understand the numbers, she understood the people behind them. That combination would become the backbone of her leadership.
The Secret to Their Partnership Success
Tom describes himself simply: “I’m a delegator.” And Tammy? She was the rare person who took anything he handed her and “did it well.” That reliability became the foundation of their working relationship. He trusted her judgment, her instincts, and her ability to see the whole picture long before she ever held a title that reflected it.
Her accounting background shaped her leadership in ways that went far beyond spreadsheets. She brought clarity, discipline, and a deep understanding of how every dollar moved through the business. As Tom put it, her strength was “communicating and supporting staff,” helping them know “exactly where they stand” on construction jobs, so they could feel confident and perform at their best.
The Moment Everything Changed
A few years ago, when Tom began planning for succession, he asked himself a simple question: Who is best suited to lead this company into the future? The answer wasn’t complicated.
“It wasn’t even a hard decision,” he said. “There was one person who knew everything. Tammy.” She understood the financials, the business, the people, and the strategy. She had the trust of the team and the respect of the field. She had already been leading long before the title caught up to her.
Transforming a Company From the Inside Out
Under Tammy’s leadership, the company modernized and matured. She championed new systems, upgraded technology, and strengthened the infrastructure that would support future growth. She pushed for ERP improvements, better reporting, and clearer scorecards so the team could see exactly where jobs stood and what needed attention.
Tom credits her with helping the company grow while maintaining discipline and accountability. He says, “Where we are today has a lot to do with her being here. Through her efforts, we support a lot more work than we should.”
What Shaped Tammy’s Leadership?
She’s tenacious, deeply caring, and unwilling to accept failure. That mindset became a cultural anchor. Failure is not an option for Tammy — she takes responsibility and cares deeply. In fact, Tammy says one of her favorite leadership quotes is, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
When asked what influences in her life contributed to her success, Tammy credits her mother. Her Dad passed when she was just 4 years old, and her mom was left to run a business on her own to support the family. Tammy says, “growing up I had no idea there were certain things women couldn’t do. We did what we had to do like fixing toilets.” Throughout her career, she has leaned on a few mentors along the way. She credits Tom’s leadership and high expectations to her success at All-Bry. She says the relationships she’s developed, and education through the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) has been “priceless,” in helping her become the construction leader she is today.
A Partnership That Changed Lives
The impact of their partnership didn’t stop at the office door. Together, they helped customers, subcontractors, and employees through difficult seasons. Tom recalled mentoring a small business owner who came to All‑Bry struggling and, with the structure, guidance, and opportunity he and Tammy provided, ultimately became a “millionaire.” It’s the quiet legacy of a strong leadership team—the ripple effect of stability, trust, and shared purpose.
What Others Can Learn From Their Story
Tom’s advice to other construction owners is straightforward: “You have to find good people… you can’t change who they are. They have to want to improve.”
Tammy’s advice mirrors his: stay curious, don’t silo yourself, and take on challenges even before you feel ready. She credits Tom for giving her “opportunities to grow, before I felt ready,” and for leading with a philosophy of “lead and I’ll follow” rather than micromanagement.
Together, they built a culture where people know where they stand, feel supported, and understand what success looks like.
A Legacy Still in Motion
When asked about his proudest moment as a leader, Tom didn’t point to revenue milestones or awards. He said simply: “The company is strong, the team is aligned, and the future is clear. And he knows exactly why.
“Where we are today has a lot to do with her being here,” he said of Tammy. “She puts the company first.”
Fourteen years ago, Tom hired an accountant.
What he really found was a partner.
A partner who would help him build a thriving company, elevate the people around them, and create a legacy defined not by titles, but by trust, courage, and shared purpose.
